Spotlighting SVHS Drama

Scotts Valley High School's drama department is stellar and benefits from incredible leadership, talent and creativity. There is a remarkable community within the drama department which is currently led by Mrs. K, also known as Kendra Kannegaard. Mrs. K is an award winning teacher and helps her students grow and succeed.

Each year the drama department presents two plays and a musical. The fall play is directed by Mrs. K and a student director. The winter play is solely student-produced with a student director. And the musical runs multiple weekends and is directed by Mrs. K and a student. The cast and crew start their preparation months in advance, and the caliber of productions is outstanding.  A team of dedicated parent volunteers help, too.

The first production was Bang Bang You're Dead in Fall 2000. The first musical was Grease and presented in Spring 2001 . Other early productions included Diary of Anne Frank, Harvey, Inherit the Wind, The Tempest, Cabaret and Streetcar Named Desire. During COVID the drama department ensured the show went on with virtual productions for the community to enjoy. More recent productions have included Clue, Urinetown, Addams Family, Rumors, Something Rotten and Leading Ladies. And this spring Hadestown Teen Edition will be performed April 18 to May 2.   â€‹â€‹â€‹
